Peter Dunham. A House Beautiful regular, the man is good.

Did you see his One Day Makeover? Yea, kind of unbelievable right?

His spaces are always beautiful, never too "done". They're the type of rooms to discover new details every time you enter. And the way he mixes color and print! I bow down.

With an envy-worthy fabric line at his fingertips, textile choices are always spot-on. Fig leaf is a definite fan favorite and I've jumped on the bandwagon here. I love it! Inspiration struck yesterday and I figured out the perfect little spot to fig-ify (anyone have a yard or two to sell??)

Dunham uses it all the time, and I think I should too!

Really this post could continue on quite endlessly. Drool-worthy room after drool-worthy room appear when you search Dunham's work. Easily a favorite designer of mine.

Color Combo: Navy and Green.

I'm helping one of my dearest friends put together a color scheme for her wedding. She's leaning toward navy blue or dark royal blue bridesmaid dresses, which I think would be beautiful for a labor day wedding. After scouring the interweb for bridal navy and green, I couldn't get the color combo out of my head. It's classic and timeless, preppy and stylish, fresh yet rich. I just love it!

Here are some of my favorite rooms, parties, vignettes, and even outfits that utilize a navy and green combo.

I die over every. last. element. in that last image! But I obviously really love the house/ flower combo goin' on in the background.

Cozy and Colorful.

I was archiving my way though some old House Beautifuls and came across this cozy LA bungalow. I love the happy nature of the space, and also admire Moises Esquenazi's design philosophy.

He believes bigger isn't always better and that small spaces can in fact take a bold pop of color for both the walls and the fabrics.

What a happy, energetic space, right?! I decided to check out more of his work and loved everything I saw. Color junkies- be prepared to swoon!

I think his use of color is so successful for two reasons; first, he employs pure, saturated colors that add a modern pop. Second, he uses one broad stroke of color, which also adds a modern and cohesive feel to his spaces.

Are you as bold with color? Or do you gravitate toward neutrals with smaller pops of bright color?

Gray in the House.

I love using gray for clients because I think it gives them the versatility to switch things up. Gray mixes easily with both other neutrals and color, and therefore one can change up pillows/throws/rugs from time to time with gray as the backdrop.

Not all clients care about changing things up on their own, but some do. And I do, too. I'm eternally changing things around at my place, and therefore used gray as a base in many rooms to facilitate this constant rotation of items in and out of rooms.

Here are a few examples of gray in my space.

(Gray goes girlie in my bathroom. It sets the stage for pops of color, currently a shade very similar to this trendy color. I love how gray keeps it from seeming too fussy and girlie though.)



(A steely, blueish gray feels masculine and handsome in my dining room/ office.)

Gray is the New Black.

Gray is the perfect neutral that will allow all other elements in a space pop. It's fresh and modern, yet cozy as well. Gray is the softer version of its close relative black, and therefore can lend a sophisticated air to a space without being overpowering. Since it's softer than black, it appeals to both a feminine and masculine sensibility.

It's a girl!

Just kidding. It's The Pantone 2011 Color of the Year!! Every year Pantone releases their prediction for the up-and-coming color for that year. And sorry boys, but this year it's pink.

This leads the way for everything from fashion to interiors to general consumer products. Don't worry, inspiration board to follow sometime this week.
